Startup Porticor has released its “Virtual Private Data” solution for enterprises wishing to make more secure use of public cloud resources. Secure use of public resources requires encryption of data at rest and in motion, to minimize the possibility of even accidental data compromises. 39% of organizations say they have no plans to move any proprietary or sensitive data to cloud infrastructure, primarily because they cannot yet envision it as secure enough. Secure encryption requires robust encryption key management, which in turn requires that the keys be stored outside the cloud rather than in it. Porticor offers a cloud-based key management solution that keeps the master keys for the data out of the cloud.
